Meet Residents From One of Georgia’s Most Exclusive Underground Clubs on a Halloween Tour that will Enlighten, Not Frighten.
Every person leaves a legacy. As such, Historic Riverside Cemetery could be considered an underground museum; a repository of more than 18,000 individual histories, each with its own story to tell. Next month, Historic Riverside Cemetery will share some of the most notable stories through its annual Spirits in October Tour.
Exceptional southern storytelling will be alive and well in Historic Riverside Cemetery next month as Riverside Cemetery and Conservancy’s Spirits in October offers ticket holders a guided walking tour with actors representing spirits of some of Macon’s most fascinating characters. Stroll through the beautiful 126-year old cemetery grounds in Historic Riverside Cemetery on the only historical tour in central Georgia that offers visitors a glimpse into the past, complete with costumed actors portraying captivating stories featured importantly in Macon’s history in one of Georgia's most exclusive underground clubs.
Spirits in October is a one-hour guided tour puts a human face on history for hundreds of visitors who enjoy seeing actors in costume at graveside bring history to life. The Historic Riverside Cemetery Conservancy will present “Where Valor Rests” during its annual Spirits in October tour during the weekends of October 26-29 and November 3-5. Tours begin at 6:00 PM and depart from the Gatehouse every 15 minutes. The cemetery asks that guests arrive 15 minutes prior to tour time. Each tour's final stop will be inside the beautiful Macon Public Mausoleum, with light refreshments.
Spirits in October is not a scary ghost tour. It’s about honoring and sharing the stories of the fascinating people who came before us to make Macon what it is today. The museum shop will have T-shirts, relevant books, gifts and souvenirs. All proceeds benefit the Conservancy’s 501(c)(3).
