Description

Join the Georgia Conservancy on September 30th for a day paddle on the beautiful Lower Etowah River. Beginning in the town of Euharlee, located between Rome and Cartersville, the 10-mile paddle is perfect for a relaxing summertime exploration of North Georgia’s Etowah.

Paddlers will meet at Osborne Park in Euharlee at 9 AM to begin a shuttle to 411 for any vehicles transporting their own boats*. Getting on the water at Osborne Park at 10 AM, our 10-mile paddle will take roughly 4 hours to complete, with many opportunities to rest, eat, and cool off in the river, before ending at the U.S. 411 Boat Landing.

Section Description via Etowah River User’s Guide:

“This 9-mile section may be the most scenic and popular paddle on the Etowah River in Bartow County. The paddle crosses no less than six Native American fish weirs and winds beneath riverside bluffs. The highlight is a .2-mile rock garden followed by a series of islands and shoals. With many places to stop and play, this is a favorite paddle for families. Some residential development encroaches on the river in places, but the river maintains a rural feel. Obstacles are limited to Native American fish weirs and small shoals do not exceed Class 1 in difficulty.”

*For our paddling trips, we facilitate a shuttle for all participants. We ensure that the majority of boat-carrying vehicles are waiting at the takeout, ready for participants when they get off the water. Details will be explained during our pre-trip emails, and plenty of shuttle instruction is provided in the field. We never leave anyone behind!

By participating in one of our Stewardship Trips, you are helping to support our year-round and statewide advocacy for the protection and conservation of Georgia's natural resources.
